Frequently asked questions
Is the Aftercare Cream fragrance free?
Yes. The Aftercare Cream is fragrance free, paraben free, gluten free and petrolatum free. Fresh tattoos are open wounds, so we keep the formula stripped back to what skin actually needs to heal: anti-inflammatories, barrier support and gentle preservation. No essential oils, no perfume.
How does it work?
Three actives do most of the work. Bisabolol (a chamomile-derived anti-inflammatory) calms the redness and heat of a fresh tattoo. Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5) supports the skin barrier and helps it hold moisture while it rebuilds. Cardiospermum Halicacabum, a botanical extract sometimes called "natural cortisone", reduces irritation and itch. Together they soothe the inflammation phase without occluding the skin or trapping heat the way petrolatum-based aftercare does.
When can I start using it?
Straight after your artist removes the dressing. The formula is gentle enough for compromised skin and is designed for use from day zero through the full healing window (typically 2 to 3 weeks).
How often should I apply it?
Days 0 to 14: a thin layer 2 to 3 times a day.
Days 15 to 28: 1 to 2 times a day.
Apply on clean skin (use the Aftercare Foam Cleanser first), pat to absorb, do not rub. Less is more; over-applying can suffocate the tattoo.
Is it different from Bepanthen, Hustle Butter or generic tattoo balms?
Yes. Bepanthen is petrolatum-based and forms an occlusive seal that traps heat and slows oxygen exchange. Most tattoo balms (Hustle Butter, Tattoo Goo) are fragranced butter or salve formats. The Aftercare Cream is non-occlusive, fragrance free and vegan, with three clinically backed anti-inflammatories instead of a heavy butter base. It lets the tattoo breathe while it heals.
Will it help with itching?
Itching during healing is normal and is driven by inflammation and skin repair. The Aftercare Cream's three anti-inflammatories (Bisabolol, Cardiospermum, Panthenol) directly target the cause. Apply a thin layer when itching starts. Do not scratch, even gently, until the tattoo has fully flaked.
Can I use it on healed skin?
You can, but you don't need to. Once your tattoo has fully healed (no scabbing, flaking or redness), switch to the Daily Tattoo Moisturiser, which has UV filters and is built for ongoing maintenance.
Are the products suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes, our products are hypoallergenic and suitable for sensitive skin, including people with skin conditions such as dermatitis.
How long will it take for my tattoo to heal?
Healing times vary between people. Factors that can influence how quickly your tattoo heals include the type of tattooing you’ve had done, the size of tattoo, and potentially its location e.g. if you get a tattoo on an area of constant rubbing like an ankle on a shoe, this may impact healing. A good aftercare routine is another important factor in ensuring your tattoo heals as quickly and healthily as it can.
